Book Recommendation: Kill Creek by Scott Thomas

Fans of gothic horror need to read Kill Creek by Scott Thomas.

This Halloween-publicity-stunt-gone-wrong story is a master class on building a haunting atmosphere that elevates the genre. In fact, the protagonist is introduced teaching a class on gothic horror to college students, a class that I have used to teach my own creative writing students. The primary plot concerning the house on Kill Creek alone is worth the read, then Thomas layers in a complex tapestry of personal traumas and exposed secrets. Imagine Stephen King’s IT except the Loser’s Club is the five most influential horror writers in America, and Pennywise has followed everyone home from Derry. Part of the fun is matching the fictional authors with real-life counterparts. Great premise, plot, and execution, and a very satisfying ending.
