Today, the HWA is proud to announce Canadian members can apply for insurance through the Writers’ Coalition. This has been a benefit we’ve been asked for since as long as I’ve been a member, and I’m delighted to see this finally come to pass.

Health insurance for HWA Canada members through the Writers’ Coalition Program

Need personal health insurance? Membership in the HWA Canada comes with access to the popular Writers’ Coalition Program — an affordable health insurance program offered by the not-for-profit insurer AFBS. And accessing the program has become even easier with the online quoting and enrollment functionality which boasts the fastest application process in Canada.

The Writers’ Coalition Program is designed to help the writing community manage their health care costs. HWA Canada members are guaranteed acceptance* into the program, with no medical questionnaires necessary and no refusals based on pre-existing conditions.

There are two plan options: Standard and Comprehensive. Both options offer dental, prescription drug, extended health care (hospital room, acupuncture, massage etc…), and travel emergency medical coverage. Both options also provide life and AD&D insurance and a Member and Family Assistance Program. There’s a monthly payment option available and premiums may be tax deductible.

The Writers’ Coalition Program website will give you a price quote in just two steps and it enables you to enroll in the program and pay online by credit card.
