The Seers Table!

Happy September! Take advantage of that back-to-school feeling by picking up some books by writers you haven’t read before! We have a fantastic selection of authors this month to choose from.

Linda Addison recommends:

Paula D. Ashe is a writer of dark fiction, who only feels comfortable writing about herself in third person. Originally from Ohio, she resides in Indiana with her wife and too many animals. Paula works as an instructor of English at a community college. She is also a Ph.D. student in American Studies at Purdue University. Before that she earned a BA in Creative Writing and a minor in Psychology, then an MA in Composition and Rhetoric and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies, all from Wright State University.

Her work appears in The Mother of All Monsters, as well as the following anthologies: Serial Killers, Hell, Axes of Evil II, and Eulogies III. She is one of the authors of 7 Magpies, an anthology film project conceived by L.C. Cruell.

Ari Drew recommends:

Though she may seem like a new face on the block, Kya Aliana has actually been immersed in the horror and suspense genres since she wrote her first full-length novel at age thirteen. Now at twenty-one, she is the proud author of over eight novels. Serving up twisted webs of intoxicating suspense and chills for the YA/NA audience, Kya crafts her tales with care, taking her refreshingly insightful characters through plots filled with twists and turns of all extremes. No matter your age though, you will find that her body of work is made up of intelligent and clever thrill-rides. Kya’s imagination is equally matched by her pure passion for the craft and a desire to promote the talent of future generations of genre writers. As the founder of Aspirations Press, she has notably curated the independently funded Dreams Come True Anthology series, which features stories from talented young voices age eighteen and under. You can find out more about Kya at her official Facebook page and the official Aspirations Press Web site.

Janet Holden recommends:

Beth Lewis is a managing editor at Titan Books in London. She was raised in the wilds of Cornwall and split her childhood between books and the beach. She has traveled extensively throughout the world and has had close encounters with black bears, killer whales, and great white sharks. She has been a bank cashier, a fire performer, and a juggler.

Her debut novel, The Wolf Road, is an intimate cat-and-mouse tale of revenge and redemption, played out against a vast, unforgiving landscape—told by an indomitable young heroine fighting to escape her past and rejoin humanity.

Kate Jonez recommends:

Kristine Ong Muslim is the author of several books of fiction and poetry: Butterfly Dream, Age of Blight, Lifeboat, Grim Series, We Bury the Landscape, and A Roomful of Machines. Her third book, Grim Series, was included in the preliminary ballot of the HWA’s 2012 Bram Stoker Award® for Poetry and was twice nominated for the Science Fiction Poetry Assn.’s Elgin Award. Her seventh Book, Black Arcadia, is a poetry collection forthcoming from the University of Philippines Press.

And this month, I’d like to recommend J. Lincoln Fenn who is not only a fantastic literary citizen, and a clever, hilarious, and very dark writer, but has a highly anticipated new book out this month!

Kate Maruyama recommends:

J. Lincoln Fenn began her horror career in the seventh grade when she entertained her friends at a sleepover by telling them the mysterious clanking noise (created by the baseboard heater) was in fact the ghost of a woman who had once lived in the farmhouse, forced to cannibalize her ten children during a particularly bad winter. Strangely, it was the last slumber party she was allowed to have.

Her debut novel, Poe, won the 2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award for Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror and went on to become an Amazon bestseller. Dead Souls will be published in September 2016 by Gallery Books. The author grew up in New England and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of New Hampshire. Currently, she lives in Seattle with her family, and is at work on The Nightmarchers.
