Horror Writers Association Says “Thanks for the Nightmares”

Share

hwa_news214x164The Horror Writers Association (HWA), the premier organization of writers and publishers of horror and dark fantasy and home of the iconic Bram Stoker Awards®, today announced the next theme, “Thanks for the Nightmares”, of its Horror Selfies viral campaign.

Starting today, and running through November 30, HorrorSeflies.com is seeking selfies featuring the submitter’s favorite horror book, movie, or television series.

Last month, the Horror Selfies campaign awarded one lucky winner a collection of nearly 70 signed books from some of the biggest names in horror. As part of November’s theme, “Thanks for the Nightmares”, the selfie garnering the most approved comments will win an e-reader. The winner can choose between an Amazon Kindle and a Kobo Touch; both valued at $99. For those who already own an e-reader, a gift card for the equivalent value is available.

Since launching on October 1, the Horror Selfies campaign has become a viral sensation garnering over 20 million impressions on Facebook and Twitter. The effort has attracted the attention of literary legends and The New York Times bestselling authors Stephen King, Peter Straub, and Ramsey Campbell, as well as some of cinema’s biggest names of past and present, including directors Mick Garris (THE STAND) and Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS). In addition to the above, hundreds and hundreds of fans have submitted their own selfies to the campaign.

The entire collection of Horror Selfies is housed at HorrorSelfies.com, and linked to HWA’s main site, Horror.org. Selfie submissions are promoted through the HWA’s various social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (links to the right).

The Horror Selfies campaign highlights the exceptional work, both literary and cinematic, produced by the horror genre. The HWA invited authors and readers, actors and directors, fans and followers, to submit a selfie to HorrorSelfies.com in which they hold a sign encouraging others to read horror/dark fantasy, to watch horror movies, or to write horror. Additionally, the HWA encourages people to promote literacy and reading among children and Young Adults, or to support a local library in their Horror Selfies.

  1. The Horror Selfies are a great fun way to introduce new readers to Horror and participate. I know I’m enjoying all the Selfies!

  2. I have loved seeing all the Horror Selfies on twitter these past weeks. This next round should be particularly interesting and possibly give me some new Horror I have not yet explored!
