Horror Writers Association

Say hi to Tom Joyce, the force behind “Nuts and Bolts”

Hey, everyone! My name is Tom Joyce, and I’m really excited to be part of the social media team!

I’m doing a monthly feature for the HWA blog called “Nuts and Bolts.” It’s still very much in the beginning stages, but I’m hoping to keep the focus on features and interviews that will be of practical use to horror writers.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m no expert. Far from it. I’m an affiliate member, and new to all this. But I’m eager to learn all I can about the craft and business of writing, and what makes for good horror. So feel free to join me as I reach out to knowledgeable people and ask them to share their insights.

If you get a chance, take a look at my previous Nuts & Bolts interviews with horror hostess Aurora Gorealis, and with novelist and TV writer-director-producer John Gray. Also, the wonderful “scare actors” at Bloodshed Farms haunted attraction in New Jersey were kind enough to share with HWA members some of their tips on how to frighten people. Be sure to check out the blog entry about them, and the videos they made for us on the HWA Tik Tok channel. (Seriously, those actors really are great!)

And if you’d like to contact me with suggestions for interviews (or just to say hi!) please email me at TomJHWA@gmail.com.

Tom Joyce is an affiliate member and beginning writer trying to learn all he can about the craft and business of writing horror from people more knowledgeable than himself. Feel free to join him on this quest with “Nuts & Bolts,” a monthly series of interviews and features dealing with the practical aspects of writing. And if you have any suggestions for good interview subjects, please feel free to get in touch with him at TomJHWA@gmail.com.
