HWAColorado hosted “An Evening with Joshua Viola” at the Denver BookBar, the Mile High Chapter’s final event of the year on Saturday, November 18. A full house showed up for the evening interview, conducted by legendary author Jeanne Stein. Superstars Stephen Graham Jones, Mario Acevedo, and Sean Eads were on hand for a night of celebration and conversation.
In addition to founding Colorado’s most successful publishing venture, Hex Publishing, Josh Viola is a writer with work in a number of anthologies, including Nightmares Unhinged, one of the highest-rated horror collections debuting in 2016. Add artist, music composer, game designer, animator, and publisher to Josh’s accomplishments, and you have Mile High’s pre-eminent multimedia artist. Josh signed new releases, including Blood Business, a Noir Crime anthology just out from Hex Publishing. Josh was awarded the ninth Yog SEA award for service to the Colorado writing community, excellence of character, and artistic achievement.
HWA Vice-President John Palisano was in Denver for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Mile High Chapter hosted an impromptu evening in the Imperial’s private room for local fans. John’s brilliance, compassion, and insight into the art and business of horror made for an extraordinary evening.
The event season for 2018 begins April 21 with “An Evening with Sean Eads;” Sean will read from a selection of work and sit for an interview. On May 26, Carter Wilson joins us for his third “An Evening with Carter Wilson” and will read from Mr. Tender’s Girl. The novel has received wide acclaim before release and has been optioned for a television series.
A calendar will be posted on the Chapter’s blog-site in January. Additional educational and social events are in planning stages.
The Chapter welcomes new member Gary Robbe to its ranks; more on Gary next month. Special thanks to Catherine Spader, who retired as Event Organizer. This month’s photography is courtesy of Catherine.
