Attending: Ben Monroe, Chad Schimke, Ambyr Shadowsinger, Crystal M. Romero.
Ken Hueler could not attend, so Ben Monroe ran the meeting.
As is tradition, we will skip the October meeting because everyone is going nuts for Halloween.
We alternate holding our meeting between San Francisco and the Peninsula to make it easier for people to attend at least some meetings. Everyone liked the idea of adding the East Bay into the rotation, because we now have a large number of members from there. Location to be hashed out on our Google Group, but the venue should be close to the BART and have WiFi. Hayward or San Leandro are current favorites. Some of the East Bay natives will scout around and let us know what some options are. We plan on having the November meeting in the East Bay.
We explored all sorts of Halloween stories, as well as decorating, and generally how much fun Halloween is.
We talked a little about the use of technology in the writing/publishing world. We discussed Macs vs. PCs, and Chad Schimke mentioned a program called Vellum, which he’s learning, and which is supposed to be great for formatting books for publication (Mac only, though).
We started talking about movies and current reading, and that turned into a discussion of cultural appropriation and the writer’s duty to being sensitive to other cultures and voices. I mentioned something related to that issue I was struggling with, and Crystal Romero made a simple suggestion that actually helped me untangle a plot-knot in my current book, so that was great.
