Welcome to HWAColorado—three chapters that hold regular events and small-group meetings: Boulder, Longmont, managed by Event Organizer Dean Wyant; Denver, managed by Event Organizer Larry Berry; and Colorado Springs, managed jointly by Hillary Racque Dodge and Carina Bissett.
For more information on the individual Chapters contact Larry at email@example.com. Dean can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Hillary and Carina can be E-mailed at https://hillarydodge.com and https://carinabissett.com/.
Dean Wyant will host HWAColorado’s second holiday event, Red Tinsel 2, Saturday, November 9, from 2 to 4, at the Denver Bookbar, 4280 Tennyson. This will be a group reading and interview, featuring Steve Rasnic Tem, Stephen Graham Jones, Carter Wilson, Josh Viola, Mario Acevedo, Angie Hodapp, and Warren Hammond. Red Tinsel 2 will be the last scheduled group event for 2019.
The Denver Chapter had the pleasure of welcoming HWA President John Palisano for a tour of the Curtis Hotel, site of the 2021 StokerCon. It was a study tour, working out how best to use what is phenomenal space. Larry Berry and the Denver Chapter will be helping Dean stage November’s Red Tinsel 2.
Denver’s next mega-event will be in May 2020, when the Yog-Sea event returns.
Horror mavens Carina Bissett and Hillary Dodge met in September at the fabulous French bistro Marigolds to plot out their next move in creating a solid Colorado Springs satellite of the HWAColorado chapter. They’ve decided to meet every other month on the first Monday, starting on October 7, 2019. The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. (MT) at Library 21C, Room B5. In addition to tackling HWA business, the dynamic duo will be leading discussions on readings from The Best Horror of the Year Volume Eleven, edited by Ellen Datlow. On October 7, they will start this exploration with a reading and analysis of “Milkteeth” by Kristi DeMeester and “You Know How the Story Goes” by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. The discussion will be followed by a mini-craft lesson and writing prompt. The meetings are open to all lovers of horror and dark fiction. A closed critique session of works by HWA members will be held following the open session.
In other news, Carina Bissett is working with the Weird Dream Society to create a speculative fiction charity anthology for RAICES. This passion project will include work by powerhouse writers working in the realm of fabulist and weird fiction. Some of the HWA members in the TOC include Julie C. Day, Jordan Kurella, and Sarah Read. Just a few of the other participants include Gemma Files, Nin Harris, Matthew Kressel, Sofia Samatar, Bonnie Jo Stufflebeam, Steve Toase, and A.C. Wise. Carina is also reading at Noir at the Bar on Friday, October 11, at The Irish Snug (1201 E. Colfax). This Denver event starts at 7:30 p.m.
