April’s meeting was held in the “secret” back room of the Eagle Eye Book Shop, one of Atlanta’s most popular independent bookstores.
The meeting was attended by eight members, including a relatively new member, Jessica Ann York, who was celebrating her first professional-rate short-fiction sale to Vastarien: A Literary Journal. Yay, Jessica!
Also worthy of celebration was the release of author Peter Adam Salomon’s fantastic new novel, Eight Minutes, Thirty-Two Seconds. Yay, Peter!
Perhaps in pursuit of ways to expand distribution for his new novel, Peter had graciously arranged to have one of the bookstore employees give an informative talk regarding how to get our books on the shelves of their bookstore and others.
The bookstore employee also discussed events where member authors will be invited to come sell and sign books, as well as opportunities to support our presence at local literary events that take place outside the store. This was the kind of valuable discussion that makes attending meetings so worthwhile.
The Atlanta HWA Chapter is hosting a panel regarding the benefits and logistics of creating a local HWA chapter at this year’s StokerCon. Following is the panel info for any attending member interested in forming a local chapter in his or her area.
Friday: 4–5 p.m. Grand View Room A. How to Start a Regional HWA Chapter.
Moderator: Andy Davidson. Speakers: David Powell, Jeff Strand, Crystal O’Leary-Davidson, Brian Kirk, Jessica Ann York.
Being part of a supportive, like-minded community of writers is one of the many benefits of the HWA. But what happens after StokerCon? How can we continue to be active members of the horror-writing community throughout the year, and what are the benefits of doing so? In this panel, members of the HWA’s newly-formed Atlanta Chapter will discuss the process, challenges, and rewards of setting up a regional chapter of the organization.
And, to any HWA members living in, or around, metro Atlanta, we hope you’ll attend one of our monthly meetings or local events. Join our Facebook page for more info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/410717196113888/
