HWA Librarian of the Year Award

THE HWA LIBRARIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD is our public recognition of the important part librarians play in the lives of every horror writer and every horror reader. Librarians have inculcated the love of reading in many of us since childhood, and their influence on our reading choices can not be overstated. Librarians are among the greatest friends any writer has, and we want to show our gratitude.

About the Award

  • WHO MAY RECEIVE THE AWARD? The award is presented annually to a librarian who has done an outstanding job of bringing horror and dark fiction to the attention of the reading public. Candidates must have worked at either a public or school library during the year prior to the award's presentation.

  • HOW ARE RECIPIENTS CHOSEN? At the beginning of each year, HWA's President appoints a Librarian Award Committee. As the year progresses, teachers, HWA members, and members of the general reading public recommend candidates to the award committee. At the end of the year, the committee, in turn, evaluates the recommendations and makes a final selection.

  • WHEN IS THE AWARD PRESENTED? The winner is announced and honored at the Bram Stoker Awards banquet, held during our Annual Conference each spring.

  • HOW CAN YOU RECOMMEND A CANDIDATE? It's very simple. If you know a librarian who has done an outstanding job of bringing Horror to the attention of the reading public in the past year, just click here to fill out the online recommendation form. Anyone may make a recommendation. Please do not make more than one recommendation for the same candidate. The number of recommendations a candidate receives is less important to the committee than the candidate's accomplishments. Candidates may not recommend themselves.
