President – Lisa Morton
Lisa Morton is a screenwriter, author of non-fiction books, novelist, six-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award®, and Halloween expert whose work was described by the American Library Association’s Readers’ Advisory Guide to Horror as “consistently dark, unsettling, and frightening.” In 2014 she released the novels Netherworld and Zombie Apocalypse!: Washington Deceased, and 2015 saw the publication of Ghosts: A Haunted History and the short story collection Cemetery Dance Select: Lisa Morton. She is the author of over one hundred short stories, and her most recent work can be found in Dark Screams 4, October Dreams 2, nEvermore, and Out of Tune. As a Halloween expert, Lisa has appeared on The History Channel and The Discovery Channel, in the pages of The Wall Street Journal and the LA Times, at such events as the Utah Humanities Book Festival, and online in podcasts at BoingBoing and The Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy. Vice President – John Palisano
John Palisano writes for magazines such as Fangoria and Dark Discoveries. With over thirty short stories published, he’s been a Bram Stoker Award® finalist three times. He’s had novels published by Bad Moon Books and Samhain Publishing, including Nerves, Dust of the Dead, Ghost Heart, and Night of 1,000 Beasts. A fiction collection, All That Withers, is forthcoming from Cycatrix press. He’s had screenplays in the top 100 of Project Greenlight and as finalist at Shriekfest. For the past few years, he’s acted as Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Chapter of the HWA. He loves playing guitar with his band in Los Angeles at some of the finest dancing and drinking establishments in the city. Secretary – Joe McKinney
Joe McKinney has his feet in several different worlds. In his day job, he has worked as a patrol officer for the San Antonio Police Department, a DWI Enforcement officer, a disaster mitigation specialist, a homicide detective, the director of the City of San Antonio’s 911 Call Center, and a patrol supervisor. He played college baseball for Trinity University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in American History, and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was the manager of a Barnes & Noble for a while, where he indulged a lifelong obsession with books. He published his first novel, Dead City, in 2006, a book that has since been recognized as a seminal work in the Horror genre, and one of the cornerstones of zombie literature. Since then, he has gone on to win two Bram Stoker Awards® and expanded his oeuvre to cover everything from true crime and writings on police procedure to science fiction to cooking and Texas history. The author of more than twenty books, he is a frequent guest at horror and mystery conventions. Joe and his wife Tina have two lovely daughters and make their home in a little town just outside of San Antonio, where he indulges his passion for cooking and makes what some consider to be the finest batch of chili in Texas. Treasurer – Leslie Klinger
Leslie S. Klinger is the New York Times-best-selling editor of the Edgar®-winning The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes, The New Annotated Dracula, and most recently, the Bram Stoker Award®-nominated The New Annotated H. P. Lovecraft for Liveright/W. W. Norton, In the Shadow of Edgar Allan Poe (Pegasus Books), as well as the Bram Stoker Award®-nominated Annotated Sandman (Vertigo/DC Entertainment). He also co-edited, with Laurie R. King, the anthologies A Study in Sherlock (Random House) and the Anthony®-winning In the Company of Sherlock Holmes (Pegasus Books). He is currently working on The New Annotated Frankenstein, to be published by Liveright in October 2017. Klinger formerly served as the SoCal Chapter President and on the National Board of the Mystery Writers of America. He practices law in Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife, dog, and 3 cats.
